Residential Architecture

Desert Modern

Solana-Smith

Designed as a contemporary response to its desert setting, this residence uses strong horizontal forms, expansive openings, and carefully articulated roof planes to create a seamless relationship between architecture and landscape. The home’s low profile stretches across the site, while dramatic projecting roof forms establish a distinctive architectural identity and provide deep shade beneath warm wood-clad soffits.

At the entry, an angular canopy draws the eye toward a transparent central foyer, offering immediate views through the home and into the surrounding desert. Floor-to-ceiling glass continues throughout the residence, framing distant mountain and desert views while filling the interiors with natural light.

Inside, a restrained material palette creates a sophisticated backdrop for the home’s open living spaces. Wood ceilings introduce warmth overhead, while the dramatic black-and-white stone fireplace anchors the great room and provides a strong vertical counterpoint to the predominantly horizontal architecture. Integrated shelving, concealed lighting, and expansive glass walls reinforce the clean, contemporary composition.

The architecture extends naturally outdoors, where broad overhangs shelter dining and gathering areas adjacent to the pool and raised spa. Outdoor living spaces are positioned to take advantage of the surrounding landscape and expansive views while maintaining a direct connection to the interior.

From the private bathing space overlooking the desert to the central living areas and protected outdoor rooms, the residence is shaped around light, view, proportion, and connection.
