WALL SYSTEMS
Green Home Design
One can be inundated with the amount of different types of wall systems for your home. As green building becomes more and more common place and a desired element for clients, we will see the number of systems grow every year. Below we list a few of the most popular wall systems in use today.
Why consider different wall systems
Wall System Benefits
IFC
ICF (insulating concrete forms) are a system of forms that stay in place as the permanent interior and exterior substrate for your walls. These interlocking modular units are stacked and filled with concrete. Rebar is added to give the concrete more strength. The benefits are extremely high thermal performance, acoustic insulation, thicker wall for aesthetics, easy to stucco, safer against fire than wood, and strength.
SIP
SIP (structural insulating panels) consist of an insulating middle layer that is sandwiched between two layers of structural board. This board can be made up of steel, plywood, or other materials. They combine many elements of conventional building into one such as studs, joists, insulation and vapor barrier and can be used as walls, roofs and floors. SIP panels have great thermal performance, construction time can be faster, and the house is tighter.
INTEGRA
Integra walls are an engineered and post-tensioned masonry system. It provides the same benefits of a traditional masonry system while at the same time providing superior thermal performance. The aesthetic benefits are that you can leave the masonry exposed & use it as a feature in your project. Integra adds strength, durability & energy efficient insulation to your build.
